****************************************************************************Youth Group Activity: the trivia contest opens the door to a discussion of the origin of Christmas carols and what motivated the writers to write these songs. Silent Night and Angels From the Realms of Glory have interesting histories that can be found through internet searches. After this discussion we continued our story of Caperston. Indeed there is no Christmas in Caperston but in his letter of July 7th Mattpaul writes ... "Chihaysu reminds us to reach out and help the poor and those facing troubles". We discussed how this call of Chihaysu is familiar to Christian charity so much a part of our holiday season. "A story you will not easily forget...
a story you will not want to end."
What if Jesus did not come 2,000 years ago but came today? How would young people receive him? The story is an adventure in a faraway land, a "story of faith, hope, courage and intrigue"

Can you imagine receiving e-mails from a different planet? Have you heard about the Strings technology? Welcome to "The Chest of Visions" by Tim Ferguson! Through a fast paced story we learn about Mattpaul and his adventure in Caperston, a planet smaller than our own. We also meet Alex, a teenager from Earth who is struggling with justice and fairness. But in the midst of these young people's experiences we come face to face with the center of everything: Jesus, or Chihaysu, for those living in Caperston.
Life is full of choices, and we tend to look for simple answers or easy recipes to reach happiness, fulfillment or satisfaction. However, the real questions in life are answered when we face the most important issue: what will we do with Christ? Mattpaul had a decision to make. He had to choose between following Chihaysu or staying as he was. Even more, he knew one of his choices could mean suffering and a difficult journey. But in saying "yes" to truth he touched others. In saying "no" to himself, his life received purpose.
Jose Carlos has added much to the story with his talented illustrations. This is a book for young people and adults alike. It can be used individually or in a group. But the purpose of the book will be completely lost if we don't feel challenged to open the Chest of Visions and make a decision about Jesus. Will we follow him or not, whatever the cost?

Review of The Chest of Visions (October 14, 2012): Three cheers for Tim Ferguson!Three cheers for Tim Ferguson! I would also like to thank Jose Carlos Gutierrez for his beautiful illustrations.
From start to finish The Chest of Visions, Secrets of Caperston is thoroughly entertaining as well as inspirational. Every age group will enjoy and benefit from getting to know these characters and traveling alongside their experiences. The Chest of Visions, Secrets of Caperston is a must read for everyone who has been gaining wisdom as well as for those who are searching for answers. I began reading it with my ten year old grandson one day. When I came back one week later he had finished the book on his own and said he cannot wait to read the sequel. This is one of a few books that I will enjoy rereading numerous times.
The next time I visit my grandson I will be bringing him a copy for us to read together. At Christmas time The Chest of Visions Secrets of Caperston will be given to family and friends.
Thanks again for a magnificent read!

The Chest Of Visions Review, October 5, 2012 By Elizabeth Marie(Read Review Smile)(Fives stars out of five)
I got the chance to read this book for free, in exchange for my honest opinion, by the author Tim Ferguson
My Review: In this book we meet youth from two different worlds. One which Jesus hasn't arrived yet, and the inhabitants do not know God. Throughout the book there are letters being sent between Tim, Alex, Mattpaul, and Huchfee; and during these letters Alex and Mattpaul become friends. Mattpaul is being challenged with wanting to become a follower of Chihaysu, when his parents, and community are against the man. Alex is also being challenged in faith as well, stepping away from God and the church. This book is unlike any other Christian book I've read. Once I opened this book, I couldn't set it down, I read it in a day and a half. This book is perfect for youth and even adults, it answers questions in a way people can easily understand it. It's perfect for a youth group read. The artwork in this book is also amazing. It really brings the story to life.
Positive Elements: We are all faced with set backs, and a lot of times be struggle with our faith. We wonder why God would let this happen. God is all around us, he has a plan for everything. This plan may not seem ideal for me or you, but never lose your faith, always trust in God.
Spiritual Elements: This is a Christian book, so of course they talk about God, the Bible, praying, etc.
Negative Elements: N/A
Other Thoughts: I love this book! I think it's perfect for a youth group read and study, since they have lessons for youth groups in the back of the book. If I was already a youth minister, I would use this book in my group. But since that's ways off, I'm going to recommend this to my pastor for our youth at church. This book is part of an anticipated trilogy, I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
